The FBI admitted that this is not the first time a hacking attempt has been made, but the first when an attacker was able to send spam to so many people.

The motives of the attacker who hacked the system are unclear: the email mentioned Vinnie Troy, a well-known author who tracked down hackers and describe their activities, and the cybercriminal group The Dark Overlord. Night Lion Security, represented by Troy, wrote about this structure in January 2021.

At the same time, it is known that the hacker registered the address as the address of the Cyber Threat Detection and Analysis Group of the US Department of Homeland Security. This group does not exist for at least two years.

A hacker or hackers started sending emails on Saturday night in New York. According to Spamhaus, no malware was attached to the emails.
