Seoul aims at the metaverse, virtual PA services by 2023

Migrants, Lukashenko:

(ANSA) – MILAN, NOV 15 – Seoul will become the first city in the world to offer public administration services on its own version of the metaverse. The idea of a virtual platform on which Facebook wants to build the future of interaction has already become a staple in the projects of many companies, from Microsoft to Google. As announced by the capital of South Korea, by 2023 the main branches of the metropolitan city will be accessible from the Metaverse 120 Center, a virtual square where every citizen, under the guise of an avatar, will be able to request information and documents from employees, including they are represented by digital alter egos. The plan also goes beyond public services, providing, from 2023 onwards, the replication on the metaverse of local recurrences, such as the Lantern Festival. Seoul’s 120 center, when fully operational in 2026, will house a variety of functions, including a virtual mayor’s office and spaces for businesses, as well as a fintech incubator for startups. The city has not given further details on how people will be able to enter the metaverse, although a note points out that the goal is to expand access to public services, especially for users with disabilities, regardless of the geographical location of residence. The cost of virtual reality headsets could be a limit to adoption. At the moment, the cheapest, compatible with the Facebook metaverse, are the Oculus Quest 2, which in South Korea were launched late compared to other countries, at the end of August, with a starting price of just over 300 euros.
