The CNR completes the stabilization of temporary workers with 328 hires

The Board of Directors of the National Research Council (Cnr) has decided to conclude the stabilization process of precarious workers with the hiring of another 328 researchers and technologists. Completing the process started in 2018 and with an overall investment that will amount to over 144 million euros when fully operational (of which 69 million euros financed with specific regulatory measures), the stabilization involved a total of 1,868 personnel, including researchers and technologists.

“This new step – the Cnr explains in a note – is an effort of great proportions for an organization which, compared to some main international competitors (CNRS in France, Max Planck Institute in Germany, Karolinska Institute in Sweden and NRCC in Canada) the lowest level of state funding per researcher and the highest ability to attract research funds (approximately 30% of the total turnover) “.

The path that led to the conclusion of the stabilization process “turned out to be very difficult precisely due to the overall scarcity of state transfers which in recent years have profoundly affected the overall economic and financial equilibrium and which only recently seem to be bucking the trend. Pending a more precise definition of the resources that can be used and of the delicate calculations concerning the overall financial sustainability – the note continues – the Board of Directors has in any case resolved in the last meetings the necessary steps to arrive at this solution “.

Today’s resolution is therefore “the conclusion of a difficult path, carried out in the last two months and the result of a strategic vision that recognizes the value of highly specialized human capital on which the Body has been able to count over the years, in every field of knowledge “. Meanwhile, the work of the Board of Directors continues to encourage the development of a strategic plan with the involvement of the scientific network and for the normalization of the organization’s budget structure with the aim of economic sustainability.
