Children interact more with paper books than with eBooks

(ANSA) – ROME, 02 DEC – When reading with children, paper books can beat the screens. Parents who want to engage children and boost their development should opt for a traditional book rather than a tablet e-book. This is highlighted by a new study from the University of Michigan, published in the journal Pediatrics.

The study found that children are more likely to interact with their parents when they share a paper book with them rather than a tablet. Moms and dads also tend to talk more with their children when they tell a story from a paper book.

Additionally, unruly children prone to emotional outbursts respond better to their parents when they read from print than from digital. To reach this conclusion, the researchers looked at the interactions between 72 parents and their children, ages 2 to 3, as they read a series of nursery rhymes on paper or on a tablet app. (HANDLE).
