Pnrr, calls for research and innovation infrastructures published

Announcements have been published which, thanks to the 1.58 billion allocated in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (Pnrr), will allow the creation of 30 research infrastructures in Italy. The notices, we read on the website of the Ministry of University and Research (Mur), call for proposals for research infrastructures, to which 1.08 billion are destined, and for technological innovation infrastructures, to which 500 million go .

The ministry plans to finance at least 20 research infrastructures, ie plants, resources and related services used by the scientific community to carry out research in several disciplines; the 500 million, on the other hand, will be destined to create or modernize at least 10 technological innovation infrastructures with the aim of encouraging close integration between companies and the world of research and innovation to support, accelerate and qualify the country’s economic growth.
Like all initiatives of the NRP, the ministry points out, the transversal criteria of the Plan must be met, which include, among other things, overcoming territorial, gender and generational gaps, as well as respecting the principle of “do not cause significant damage “.

As regards research infrastructures, the thematic areas are those indicated in the National Research Infrastructure Plan (Pnir) and which refer to the Roadmap of the European Strategy Forum on Research Infrastructures (ESFRI), or 400 million for the infrastructures of the “Science sector” physical and engineering “, 200 million each for” Environment “and” Health and Food “, 100 million for” Social and cultural innovation “, 90 million each for” Data, computing and digital research infrastructures “and” Energy “. The projects can be presented by public research bodies and universities, both individually and as a team. Applications for funding, which must not be less than 15 million euros and which can be reimbursed up to 100%, must concern or upgrade research infrastructures already present in the Pnir. They can be presented exclusively through the GEA IT platform of the ministry starting from 12.00 on January 31, until the same time on February 28, 2022.

As regards the technological innovation infrastructures, the proposals must have eligible costs between 10 and 20 million in the case of modernization interventions, and between 20 and 40 million in the case of new buildings. Also in this case, the proposals can be submitted by research bodies and institutions supervised by the Mur, which must necessarily make use of the contribution of private subjects who co-finance the initiative through public-private partnership operations: funding will reach a maximum of 49 % of eligible expenses. Applications can be submitted on the same platform of the Mur from 12.00 on 26 January until the same time on 10 March 2022.
