Biologists from Hawaii and France have announced that the sixth mass extinction has begun on Earth. At the same time, the current mass extinction is completely caused by human activity.

The history of our planet remembers five cases of mass extinction. The most famous of them is the asteroid that destroyed the dinosaurs 66 million years ago.

But this time Man is responsible for the destruction of all living things..

Scientists claim that a sharp increase in the rate of extinction of species and a decrease in the number of many animal populations has been documented, but some deny that these phenomena are tantamount to a mass extinction.

This denial is based on a preconceived notion of a crisis the situation with mammals and birds is taken into account, but invertebrates are ignoredand they are at risk.

The authors of the study calculated that since 1500, the Earth could have lost between 7.5 and 13% of the two million species known on Earth – this is a staggering 150 – 260 thousand species, writes eurasiareview.com.

“Including invertebrates in the statistics would be key to confirming that we are indeed witnessing the onset of the sixth mass extinction in Earth’s history,” said study lead author Robert Cowie.

Earlier we wrote that by 2100 people will live up to 180 years. To date, the record for longevity belongs to the Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment, who died at 122 in 1997.
