A further detail comes from the computer code of iOS 15.4, the latest update of the iPhone operating system. Inside, the developer Maximiliano Firtman has identified the presence of the so-called WebXR, the IT standard used to manage elements and activities in VR and AR environments. Specifically, Firtman talks about four new features, never seen before on iPhones, integrated into Apple’s web browsing software, Safari. These are “WebXR Augmented Reality Mode”, “WebXR Device API”, “WebXR Gamepad Module” and “WebXR Manual Input Module” which, for Firtman, are the prelude to the launch of the goggles or goggles. According to insiders, iOS 15.4 will be the last system update made available last fall, before the arrival of iOS 16, this September and possible “smart glasses”. Recently, the expert analyst of Apple, Ming-Chi Kuo, had reported some difficulties encountered by the Cupertino giant in the realization of the devices, in particular with respect to the excessive overheating in the part that contains the processor and criticality in functions that affect the goggle camera. Developer Firtman points out that references to WebXR are disabled by default in Safari with iOS 15.4 and should be enabled automatically, when the phone is connected to an external viewer or, alternatively, directly from the viewer, on which a new version of the operating system. His name, according to past rumors is rOS, or “reality operating system”.
