Drought warning in Spain after prolonged absence of rain

The warning signs are growing in Spain in the face of a prolonged absence of rain in much of the territory that causes fear of damage to agriculture and livestock. The situation became more worrying in this early 2022: January was the second with the least rainfall since the beginning of the twenty-first century, according to the State Meteorology Agency. A month with a level of rainfall that reached only 26% of the value considered normal for this time of year.
The absence of rain, determined in particular by an anticyclonic situation that lasted for weeks, is added to the problems of water drought already felt for months in some areas of Spain, in particular in the area of the Guadalquivir river (south) and in the North East. The average of the national water reserve is 44.8%, according to the latest figures released by the government. In the Guadalquivir area it is 28.6%.
As reported by the Efe news agency, for the moment there is a consensus in the sectors most at risk that it is still early to forecast any economic losses. But more and more producers are hoping it will rain as soon as possible.
According to the latest weather forecasts, towards the weekend there may be rain in some areas of the country, even if intense or generalized rainfall is not expected.
