The ‘king of Bollywood disco music’, Bappi Lahiri, died in India at the age of 69. This was announced by the head of the Mumbai clinic where Lahiri had been hospitalized for months for respiratory complications that occurred after recovering from Covid.
The singer and composer was originally from West Bengal, where he was born into a family of musicians. By the seventies he had become a star of disco music, with his unmistakable look dripping with gold chains, diamond bracelets and permanent sunglasses for his admission “homage to Elvis Presley”.
Lahiri has written dozens of soundtracks for Bollywood blockbusters and has given a twist to the style of ballet by introducing his own frenzied 80s rhythm.
