Musk donates instrumentation to Tonga to reconnect it to the world

(ANSA) – WELLINGTON, FEBRUARY 19 – The island of Tonga, severely hit by the eruption of an underwater volcano which among other things destroyed a cable that ensured telecommunications, has announced that Tesla founder Elon Musk has donated 50 satellite terminals to help you reconnect with the world.

Tonga’s telecommunications system has been virtually out of action since January 15, when a violent eruption, followed by a tsunami, broke an underwater fiber optic cable. Musk’s Space X company is supplying 50 VSAT-type terminals “which we are trying to make the most of,” said Prime Minister Siaosi Sovaleni.

The tiny South Pacific kingdom is also considering other offers to restore its connections. The equipment Musk donated could allow them to be restored from next week. (HANDLE).
