Covid: India authorizes use of Corbevax vaccine for teenagers

(ANSA) – NEW DELHI, 22 FEB – Green light in India for the second coronavirus vaccine, to be inoculated to children aged 12 to 18, who make up about a fifth of the country’s total population. The Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), the Indian Drug Supervisory Authority, has authorized the emergency use of Corbevax, produced by Biological E, a vaccine to be administered in two doses, with a recombinant protein subunit.

Corbevax, already approved for adults last December, is the third product entirely developed in India. Until now, the country has used Covaxin, from Bharat Biotech, for boys between 15 and 18 years old.

India’s vaccination campaign exceeded one billion 700 million doses, including 20 million in the 15-18 age group.
