This is a twist – Finland joins NATO

Against the backdrop of preparations for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on February 23, the Finnish Parliament discussed foreign and security policy issues, as well as the issue of the country’s entry into NATO, for three hours. During the meeting, Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin said that the government is ready to apply for NATO membership due to the threat of large-scale war in the region.

“The threat of a major war is now more real than at any time in many years. Finland is ready to apply for membership in NATO if the issue of national security becomes acute”– the portal conveyed the words of the head of the Finnish government.

Situation

• Recall that because of the fear of getting NATO missiles at his border, Russian President Vladimir Putin is demanding from the North Atlantic Alliance guarantees of non-expansion to the east. So far, the only ultimatum from the Kremlin to the progressive world has been a ban on the admission of Ukraine, Moldova and Georgia to NATO. Putin somehow did not consider Finland.
• As a result of the Kremlin’s aggressive policy, Kiev began to demand security guarantees from such neighbors from the world community.
• Russia’s closest neighbors from NATO members began to demand from the allies to strengthen the NATO presence on their territories. Germany, for example, transferred its Eurofighter fighters to a military air base in Romania. They are now at the Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base in the Black Sea, where about 1,000 US troops were previously deployed.
• Berlin also decided to transfer its military and equipment to Lithuania. 350 Bundeswehr troops and 150 vehicles are expected to arrive here.
• On February 16, the British government decided to increase its troops in Estonia and transfer additional military equipment there.
