(ANSA) – ROME, FEB 27 – It is believed that the 13 Ukrainian soldiers who defended the Snake Island from the Russian attack in the Black Sea may still be alive, and that an officer on board a naval warship Moscow had replied “fuck you” when asked to surrender. The Guardian reports this, citing Ukrainian officials.
That day, there were 13 border guards stationed on the rocky island of about 16 hectares owned by Ukraine which is about 300 km west of Crimea. Everyone was believed to have died after refusing to give up.
However, in a recent statement, the Border Guard Service of Ukraine (DPSU) said: “We strongly believe that all Ukrainian defenders of the island may be alive. After receiving information on their possible whereabouts, the DPSU along with the Ukrainian armed forces are working to identify our soldiers. ” (HANDLE).
