(ANSA) – KABUL, 27 FEB – The Taliban will no longer allow the evacuation of Afghans who wish to leave their country until the situation of those already evacuated abroad improves. Their spokesperson announced today.
More than 120,000 Afghans and people with dual nationality were evacuated until August 31 and the last American soldiers hastily departed from Afghanistan, two weeks after the takeover of Kabul by Islamic fundamentalists.
Hundreds more people were subsequently allowed to leave the country by air, but the last official evacuation by air took place on 1 December.
Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Taliban have received reports of thousands of Afghans “living in poor conditions” in Qatar and Turkey. (HANDLE).
