This week the United States is ready to abandon Russian oil

Democratic House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer told reporters that a bill to ban energy imports from Russia could be passed as early as this week.

A powerful group of congressmen from the two leading US parties (Democratic and Republican) announced on March 7 that it would draft legislation to suspend traditional trade relations with Russia and Belarus and give the White House the power to raise tariffs for those two countries in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Politicians agreed to conclude an agreement to ban the import of “energy products” from Russia.

In their statement, senior lawmakers also said they would require the US trade representative to suspend Russia’s participation in the World Trade Organization and give President Joe Biden the right to restore trade relations under certain conditions and Congressional disapproval.

Sanctions noose
