(ANSA) – BUENOS AIRES, MAR 12 – Almost 39 million Colombians are called to the polls tomorrow for legislative elections intended to renew the two branches of Parliament for the period 2022-2026, and above all to measure the strength of the president’s right-wing government Iván Duque, after many months of social tensions and violence, and in a Latin American context where winds of change are blowing.
In addition to the renewal of the members of the Chamber and Senate, with the novelty of the inclusion in this area of 16 seats that will be destined for the victims of violence, the appointment will also allow the holding of primaries to define the candidates of three major coalitions that will compete with some independents in the presidential elections on 29 May.
According to the latest survey by the Invamer institute, the left-wing Pacto Historico coalition could obtain between seven and 7.5 million votes in the legislative elections, followed by the right-wing coalitions, Equipo por Colombia, with 3.5 million votes, and in the center, Centro Esperanza, with three million.
Seats throughout the country will open at 8 local time (14 Italian) and close at 16 (22 Italian). The ballot will cover first the presidential primary and then the legislative ones, with reliable results within a few hours. (HANDLE).
