(ANSA) – BERLIN, 17 MAR – “I wanted in the political spectrum there was a left alternative to the politics of insecurity and inequality. So I participated in the foundation of Linke. But today’s Linke has given up on this aspiration”.
With this motivation, Oskar Lafontaine, 78, a historic figure in German politics, announced his intention to leave the German left party, which he had co-founded.
The statement is contained in a note of about forty lines, released in his last speech to the Landtag of Saarland, before the regional elections on March 27.
The German media recalled that this is Lafontaine’s second spectacular turning point, which in 2005 announced his departure from the SPD. Just with the Social Democrats, in the government of Gerhard Schroeder, Lafontaine had been finance minister.
The leaders of Linke deplored the decision of the former founder considering it “wrong”. While his wife Sara Wagenknecht, who for now would not leave the party, has not expressed herself in this regard. (HANDLE).
