(ANSAMed) – BEIRUT, MARCH 17 – In the last few hours, the Russian air force has conducted intense bombings in central Syria against alleged ISIS positions.
This was reported by the National Observatory for Human Rights in Syria, according to which the attacks took place east of Hama and Homs, in a semi-desert area where there is a presence of insurgents from the ‘Islamic State’.
In recent days, at least 15 government soldiers and members of loyalist auxiliary forces have been killed in clashes with ISIS fighters in central Syria.
Russia has been militarily present in Syria since 2015 in support of the central government in Damascus, embodied by the disputed President Bashar al Assad.
In Syria, Moscow’s military, air and naval forces have in recent years extended their influence throughout the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean. (ANSAMed).
