Here London, BoJo between praises Zelensky and bunga bunga

On the one hand, the praises collected by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the standard-bearer image of the line of firmness, in the front row among the NATO allies themselves in supporting Kiev; on the other, the gaffes attributed to him at home by his detractors and the re-emerging shadow of an elusive “bunga bunga” in British sauce evoked against him by a deputy from the Labor opposition in the Question Time on Wednesday in the House of Commons. These are the two fronts of the day for Boris Johnson against the backdrop of the Ukraine dossier, in a United Kingdom increasingly focused on the terrible news of the war and on the wall against the wall between Vladimir Putin’s Russia and the West; but also struggling with the consequences that the earthquake of the anti-Moscow sanctions is now starting to project on a global scale on the economy: with the GDP growth estimates downsized just today for what concerns the island – due to the repercussions of the war scenario – from over 6% post-Covid rebound (record among the G7) calculated in the autumn, at no more than 3.8%. Inevitable and necessary sacrifice, in the words of Prime Minister Tory and his Minister of Finance, Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak.

Convinced in stressing that sanctions are a point of honor, as well as a deterrent factor in the face of “the aggression of Ukraine” ordered by the Kremlin. An almost Churchillian point of honor, which earns Johnson Zelensky’s gratitude: ready to point out BoJo himself in a television interview as one of the “friendly” leaders he feels closest to at this moment, together with Polish Prime Minister Duda and to the French president Macron. But that is not enough to free the Downing Street tenant from the accusations and sarcasm of Labor Matt Western, who has targeted him in Parliament as a hypothetically “blackmail” figure, even doubting that Her Majesty’s secret services can to fully trust him, for his acquaintances with Lord Ievgheni Lebedev: British publisher of Russian origin (son of Aleksandr, tycoon and former KGB officer) whose holiday mansion in Umbria the current head of the government was for example a guest in the 2018 – when he was foreign minister – on the occasion of a party. Party described by Western as a suspicious “bunga bunga”, a party with “Berlusconi-style” girls. And that instead in the memory of today’s ‘leader’ Johnson can only cause scandal in the “soup of absurdity” cooked by the Labor exponent.
