Leak of gas and chlorine in London, 80 people intoxicated

At least 80 people were rescued for respiratory problems after the gas leak, fueled by a chemical reaction linked to presumably accidental chlorine, which occurred today in the structure that houses the swimming pools of the London Aquatic Center in London, in the area of the Olympic park named after the queen Elizabeth (London’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park). This was reported by medical sources, specifying that 13 ambulances took part, along with firefighters and police patrols. And that 29 people are currently being treated in hospital, while 48 – mildly intoxicated – have been treated on the spot.
Many other individuals were instead evacuated as part of an intervention described by the media as timely and orderly, despite the inevitable initial fear. At the moment there are no patients in critical conditions and the alarm has disappeared. According to the first findings of the firefighters, it was a reaction that could have been caused by the malfunction of a system. Scotland Yard has however launched an investigation, confining itself to confirming in a note that detectives and specialists are conducting investigations on the origin of the diffusion in the air of what are defined as “noxious fumes”.
