(ANSA) – NEW YORK, MARCH 24 – The UN General Assembly has adopted the resolution proposed by Westerners on the humanitarian situation in Ukraine which calls for “the immediate cessation of hostilities by Russia, in particular any attacks on civilians “, humanitarian access and protection of civilians, medical personnel, journalists and humanitarian workers. 140 countries voted in favor, 5 against and 38 abstentions.

The five countries that voted against the humanitarian resolution of Westerners in the UN General Assembly are Russia, Syria, Belarus, Eritrea, North Korea (the same ones that voted against the resolution of 2 March last). China, on the other hand, is among the 38 abstentions (three more than last time).

To be adopted, the text had to be approved by two thirds of the member countries. The documents of the UN General Assembly have no legally binding value but have political and symbolic value, showing how Moscow is isolated in the international community. (HANDLE).
