Relations between Tehran and Riyadh “are not good” but Iran is ready to hold the fifth round of talks for the normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia. This was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, as reported by the Irna agency, during an interview with the Lebanese channel Almayadeen TV, during an official visit to Beirut.
According to the Iranian official, the Islamic republic “is ready” to hold new talks and does not hold itself responsible for the current problems.
Just two weeks ago, Iran made it known that it had halted the ongoing negotiations with Saudi Arabia for the normalization of relations and had criticized the capital punishment inflicted by Riyadh on 81 people recently. During the televised interview, Amirabdollahian denied any involvement by Iran in the ongoing conflict in Yemen, which is one of the reasons why Tehran and Riyadh have broken off relations since 2016 by closing their diplomatic missions in their respective countries.
