Malta: elections, Labor proclaims third consecutive victory

The Maltese Labor Party, on the basis of the first official projection, won the legislative elections for the third consecutive time. Party officials have declared success while the counting of ballot papers is still underway. The center-right Nationalist Party, in opposition, conceded the victory.

According to the projection based on the ballots scrutinized starting at 9 today, Labor, led by Robert Abela who succeeded Joseph Muscat in January 2020, will once again win the absolute majority of parliamentary seats with a gap of “over thirty thousand votes”, equal to about 10% of the votes cast.

The live broadcast from the Salone dello Spoglio, published in streaming by the Maltese media, shows scenes of exultation of Labor supporters, while celebrations have begun in the country with a large launch of fireworks. As per Maltese tradition, the celebrations will continue tomorrow.
