Syria: clashes in Isis prison camp, 2 killed and 10 wounded

(ANSAMed) – BEIRUT, MARCH 29 – A woman and a child were killed in the last few hours while six other women and four children were injured in firefights that took place overnight in the al Hol prison camp, in the north-east of Syria, where US-backed Kurdish forces have been holding family prisoners for years of former Isis militiamen or people who fled from an area once controlled by the Islamic State.

This was reported by the National Observatory for Human Rights in Syria, according to which the clashes took place in sectors 4 and five of the infamous camp, which is located close to the Syrian-Iraqi border, in the Hasake region, controlled by Kurdish and Arab militias led by the Kurdish Workers’ Party (PKK).

According to the first reconstructions, the clashes occurred between at least one suspected member of ISIS and the Kurdish forces intervened in the camp, supported by the overflight of US military helicopters.

For three years, tens of thousands of people have been amassed in al Hol camp, mostly women and children.

About 30,000 of these are Syrians, another 25,000 are Iraqis, and the rest come from more than 50 different nationalities, including Westerners. (ANSAMed).
