Italy-Iraq: Ambassador Greganti meets Maliki and Hakim

(ANSAMed) – BEIRUT, MARCH 29 – The Ambassador of Italy to Iraq, Maurizio Greganti, had meetings today with two of the main Iraqi politicians, Nuri al Maliki and Ammar al Hakim.

As reported by the press office of the same Italian diplomatic office in Baghdad, Greganti met former premier al Maliki, head of the State of Law coalition, and al Hakim, leader of the Hikma political movement.

The issues relating to bilateral relations between Italy and Iraq and the current Iraqi political situation were at the center of the two respective talks.

Iraq is going through a delicate political and institutional phase: after the legislative elections of the past few months, the political factions are negotiating among themselves to find an agreement both on the election of the President of the Republic and on the formation of a new government.

At this stage, the Italian ambassador Greganti has scheduled meetings with all the leaders of the main Iraqi political groups. (ANSAMed).
