Italy-Lebanon: Unifil commander visits the Italian base

(ANSAMed) – BEIRUT, MARCH 30 – One month after his appointment as head of the mission and commander of Unifil, the UN contingent deployed in southern Lebanon close to the Blue Line dividing Israel, the Spanish general Aroldo Lazaro, visited today, for the first time since taking office, the “Millevoi” base, headquarters of the command of the western sector of Unifil’s area of ​​responsibility and headquarters of the Italian contingent in Lebanon.

This was reported today by a press release from the Unifil command based in Naqura, a Lebanese coastal town close to the Blue Line.

The commander of Unifil was welcomed by General Massimiliano Stecca, commander of the West Sector, who illustrated all the activities in progress to General Lazaro, updating him on the operational and logistical situation of the Italian-led sector.

During the greeting to the blue helmets of the Western Sector, the commander of Unifil wished to express his satisfaction and thanks for the work done, with particular reference to the application of Resolution No. 1701 of the United Nations Security Council.

General Lazaro took over at the end of last February of the Italian general Stefano Del Col, who remained at the head of Unifil for more than three and a half years.

The Italian mission in Lebanon is currently led by the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” Cavalry Brigade, in its sixth term in the Middle Eastern country. In the western sector there are 3,800 blue helmets from 16 different countries.

The entire Unifil mission includes military personnel from 46 different countries. There are about a thousand Italian soldiers participating in Unifil. (ANSAMed).
