(ANSA) – RIO DE JANEIRO, APRIL 02 – At least 14 people have died as a result of heavy rains and landslides that have hit Brazil since last Friday, in particular the state of Rio de Janeiro.
The most critical situations were recorded in the city of Paraty, where seven people from the same family (a mother and six children) died in a landslide, and in Angra dos Reis, where civil protection reported six dead and five missing. Another emergency occurred in Mesquita, in the Baixada Fluminense, where according to the firefighters a man was electrocuted in a completely flooded area. Yesterday morning the Brazilian National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued an alert, which will last until 10 am today due to the persistence of heavy rains in Rio de Janeiro.
