After dozens of bodies were found near Kievmass graves were dug to bury people who, according to the Ukrainesome had their hands tied behind their backs, the president Volodymyr Zelensky This Monday, 4th, he called Russian soldiers murderers, torturers, rapists and looters and says that “only they deserve death after what they have done”. The accusations had already been made in recent weeks and only intensified after Ukrainian troops regained control over the city of Bucha.

The sharing of images of dead bodies on the streets shocked the world, and leaders of Western countries, from North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and United Nations (UN), commented on what had happened. “The information coming in from this region and beyond raises serious and troubling questions about potential war crimes and serious violations of international humanitarian law, as well as serious human rights violations,” said UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet. There is no information about the escalation of the massacre, as, according to the Ukrainian attorney general, Iryna Venediktova, an investigation is being carried out. However, she adds that around 410 civilian bodies have been recovered. Bucha Mayor Anatoly Fedoruk said 280 bodies were taken to mass graves because it is impossible to bury them in cemeteries within reach of the bombings.

The European Union will meet this Monday to urgently debate a new series of measures against Moscow. Emmanuel Macron, President of France, agrees with the application of more sanctions. Olaf Scholz, German chancellor, said on Sunday that the new measures will be decided in the coming days and his defense minister talked about the possibility of cutting Russian gas imports, one of the great assets of the Moscow negotiations. Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called for the creation of an international investigation commission into the “genocide”, and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez said his country would “do everything possible to ensure that those who committed war crimes do not go unpunished”, while also citing a possible “genocide”.

During a video made available on Sunday night, 3, Zelensky was relentless in his message, in which he claimed that the concentrated evil had reached his land. “I want every mother of every Russian soldier to see the bodies of people killed in Bucha, in Irpin, in Hostomel. I want all the leaders of the Russian Federation to see how their orders are carried out,” he added. In the statement, he also said that he had created a special body to investigate the massacres in areas where Russian forces had withdrawn in the capital region, after Moscow redirected the offensive towards southeastern Ukraine.

Despite the scenarios and images that are circulating, Russia denies that it has done anything. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Russian Defense Ministry officials found signs of “fakes in the videos” and “fakes” in the footage presented by Ukrainian authorities as evidence of a massacre blamed on Russia. “Based on what we’ve seen, these video footage cannot be trusted,” Peskov said, before adding that “this information should be seriously questioned.”
