Ramadan: Sheikh Dubai launches ‘one billion meals’ campaign

(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 04 – On the occasion of Ramadan, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, vice president and sovereign of Dubai, launched the ‘One Billion Meals’ campaign for the poor and hungry across the country world. The Emirati media report it.

Announced last month, the initiative encourages people to donate money for food “until the target is met” in what is considered the largest campaign to fight hunger in the world.

“During Ramadan we will be able to feel the suffering of 800 million people who sleep hungry every day,” Sheikh Mohammed said on Twitter.

Food parcels are distributed in partnership with the United Nations World Food Program (WFP), the regional network of food banks, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum humanitarian and charitable institution and humanitarian organizations in countries where the need is greatest.

The campaign aims to help the most vulnerable people in 50 countries by supporting efforts to reach the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 2 to end hunger by 2030. (ANSA).
