(ANSA) – LISBON, APRIL 07 – Roman Abramovich is said to be the head of the board of directors of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia chaired by the rabbi who certified his Sephardi origin in order to obtain Portuguese citizenship. The Russian oligarch has in fact been a Portuguese citizen since April 2021, when the Sephardic community of Porto approved his request. Investigations into the management of this practice have recently led to the arrest of the rabbi at the head of the Sephardic community of Porto, accused, among other things, of corruption and falsification of documents.
According to a survey published by the Publico newspaper, in 2018 Abramovich would have been publicly thanked by the president of the Federation, Alexander Boroda, for his generous donations to all Jewish communities in Russia.
Boroda is also the one who signed the document that certifies the historical and “sentimental” link between Abramovich and Portugal. In 2018, Berel Lazar, the most powerful rabbi of Russia, also known as “Putin’s rabbi” for his connection with the Russian president, expressed gratitude to Abramovich. (HANDLE).
