Pakistan: session postponed on vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Khan

(ANSA) – ISLAMABAD, APRIL 09 – After a morning of long discussions and mutual accusations, the session of the vote of no confidence in Prime Minister Imran Khan was postponed to the evening. The session was adjourned for a second time in the late afternoon after MPs clashed severely in the National Assembly with the opposition that accused members of the ruling party of using various tactics to avoid voting.

During the session, which began this morning, MEPs dwelt on their speeches, taking long breaks while the opposition repeatedly asked for voting to begin.

On April 3, the Pakistani vice president rejected the no-confidence motion against Khan, calling it a “foreign and unconstitutional conspiracy”. Subsequently, the president dissolved the national assembly on Khan’s advice and called for new elections. However, the Supreme Court reinstated the National Assembly by calling for another vote of no confidence (ANSA).
