Baseball: USA; 75 years ago Robinson first African American in MLB

(ANSA) – NEW YORK, APRIL 15 – Jackie Robinson made history 75 years ago by becoming the first African American in modern times to serve in Major League Baseball (MLB), the North American professional league of baseball. It was April 15, 1947 when the player broke racial barriers by taking the field at Ebbets Field in Brooklyn with the Dodgers shirt.

This year, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary, tributes are expected on the field and also off the field.

For example, the MLB network will broadcast a segment in which the late actor Chadwick Boseman talks about the joy he felt playing the role of the player in the film ’42 – The True Story of an American Legend ‘(2013). His number was that of his shirt that the league withdrew him in 1997.

While in 2004 a ‘Jackie Robinson Day’ was made official.
