The importance of Viktor Medvedchuk for Russian President Vladimir Putin is greatly exaggerated, according to Anton Gerashchenko, adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In his opinion, the godfather of the Russian dictator will be exchanged on a common basis. He spoke about this in an interview with Natasha Vlashchenko specifically for the Ukraine 24 YouTube channel.

“I don’t think there will be anything like 500 prisoners of war for one Medvedchuk,” Gerashchenko said.

In his opinion, the head of the Opposition Platform – For Life will be exchanged without special conditions, in particular because, together with his political ally, MP Ilya Kiva, he literally robbed the Kremlin. In addition, as you know, the strong are respected there, and Medvedchuk’s current position is very different from the favorable one.

“Medvedchuk is hardly very interesting to Putin. They will exchange him, but, I think, on a general basis. Putin respects those who have power, but Medvedchuk no longer has power. He is a traitor, he robbed Putin. He took hundreds or billions of dollars to undermine Ukraine,” Gerashchenko said.

Medvedchuk case

  • On April 12, Zelensky announced that the Security Service of Ukraine had caught the head of the Opposition Platform for Life Party, Viktor Medvedchuk. The network immediately exploded with a variety of memes on this topic.
  • Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, said that today, in order to survive, Medvedchuk needs to hide in a Ukrainian prison, with a guaranteed multi-year prison term. In the Russian Federation, he will definitely be liquidated as a person who regularly lied about the mood in Ukraine, stole money and eventually became one of the initiators of the war.
  • Former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov offered to exchange the detained Medvedchuk for Mariupol residents.
  • The Kremlin publicly denies Viktor Medvedchuk and is not going to officially take him to Moscow. Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the fugitive politician is not a Russian citizen, but a foreign political figure, and the Kremlin is not sure that Medvedchuk wants to be exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners.
