Jerusalem: Bennett, Ben-Gvir will not go to Damascus Gate

(ANSA) – TEL AVIV, APRIL 20 – Prime Minister Naftali Bennett has decided to prevent the radical right-wing deputy Itamar Ben-Gvir from visiting the Damascus Gate in the afternoon – in the Arab-majority part of Jerusalem. Ben-Gvir intends to lead the ‘March of the flags’, an initiative of the nationalist right to which the police have denied authorization, given the tense situation of recent weeks in the city. “I have no intention – said Bennett – that an insignificant policy endangers lives. I will not allow Ben-Gvir’s political provocation to harm the lives of Israeli soldiers and policemen”. The premier then specified that the ‘March of flags’ will take place at the end of May as every year.

Ben-Gvir however rejected Bennett’s statement adding that he “doesn’t take orders from him”. For now the initiative is still planned. (HANDLE).
