(ANSA) – RIO DE JANEIRO, APRIL 20 – The off-season Carnival kicks off today in Rio de Janeiro, where in the evening, in the traditional city Sambodromo, there will be the first performances of the samba schools.
The parades, which should have taken place in February, had been postponed due to the resurgence of Covid-19.
The music and dance show on the Marques de Sapucaì track, where thousands of spectators are expected to participate, is re-proposed for the first time after two years of waiting following the coronavirus pandemic.
Tonight it will be the turn of the Serie Oro schools, which compete for promotion to the Special Group, where the ‘Serie A’ schools of the Rio Carnival parade. The latter will perform from Friday.
Although the Municipality has not authorized the events in the street, it is estimated that some ‘blocos de rua’ (street music groups) will still pour along the streets of the Rio neighborhoods, parallel to the parades in the Sambodromo, coinciding with the arrival in city of tens of thousands of tourists from various states of the country, such as São Paulo, Minas Gerais and Paranà, among others.
