(ANSA) – MADRID, APRIL 21 – Today is 30 years since the first journey of a high-speed train in Spain: in fact, on April 21, 1992, the inauguration of the first line built in the country, which connects the capital Madrid with the capital of Andalusia Seville. Since then, more than 464 million people have used Spanish high-speed trains (called Ave), according to Renfe, the company that operates passenger rail transport.
That first line Madrid-Seville – inaugurated a few weeks before the 1992 Barcelona Olympics – was 471 kilometers long, said the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez on Twitter. Today, she added, Spain’s high-speed rail network is 13 lines and 3,726 kilometers. (HANDLE).
