(ANSA) – NEW YORK, APRIL 25 – After more than two years of restrictions due to covid and slowly returned to social occasions, the White House realized that an urgent problem needs to be solved: crystal glasses are missing for events. “The last full crystal service for state dining at the White House was ordered during the Nixon era,” explained Stewart McLaurin, president of the White House Historical Association, the non-profit organization founded in 1961 by the then first lady Jacqueline Kennedy to preserve the ‘Casa del Popolo’.
The Reagan – as CNN explains – donated 130 Steuben glasses to the White House, but to be used only for events ;; in the private residence. It was during the administration of George W.
Bush that the problem first emerged, and the great state dinners of the Barack Obama era only confirmed the desperate need for new glasses. The question then fell on the former first lady Melania Trump, who according to three informed sources, however, would have refused to fulfill the requested task.
Today, when a state dinner is held (it happened with both Trump and Obama), glasses are often rented, but as insiders point out, obviously it is not the same thing. (HANDLE).
