Migrants: Mexican authorities block a new caravan

(ANSA) – ROME, APRIL 27 – In the last few hours, the Mexican authorities have stopped and dispersed the fourth caravan of migrants that has formed so far this year in the municipality of Tapachula, on the border with Guatemala. The Efe agency reports it.

The group of about a hundred migrants, formed yesterday afternoon, was dispersed by members of the National Institute for Migration (Inm) together with the Mexican National Guard in riot gear.

The fourth caravan left early this morning from the community of Álvaro Obregón after traveling about 16 kilometers yesterday from Tapachula, in the state of Chiapas.

The migrants were met by the immigration authorities who arrived with vans and dozens of members of the National Guard who surrounded and blocked them. The representative of the INM in Chiapas, Paola López Rodas, asked the migrants to agree to receive treatment and not to continue their journey. Federal authorities have offered to take the women and children to the municipality of Huixtla, also in Chiapas, where they will begin the visa procedure for humanitarian reasons.

This is the fourth group of migrants to leave Tapachula so far this year. Mexico repatriated more than 114,000 foreigners in 2021, according to data from the country’s interior ministry. (HANDLE).
