Covid: GB acted illegally by transferring patients to nursing homes

(ANSA) – LONDON, APRIL 27 – The High Court of London has declared illegal the decision taken by the British government at the beginning of the pandemic to discharge some patients from hospitals without having subjected them to a swab for Covid and transfer them to nursing homes, where thousands of seniors have died from the coronavirus. The assurances of the health authorities made in 2020 to create a “protective ring” in England around the most vulnerable people were completely disregarded.

The court agreed with Cathy Gardner and Fay Harris, whose fathers over 80 died after becoming infected in health facilities. A picture of medical malpractice and bad assistance emerged, in which tests were not carried out to evaluate the positivity to coronavirus to those in nursing homes, too often “abandoned” to themselves.

The ruling states that the policies contained in the circulars published in March and early April 2020 were illegal because they did not take into account the risk to elderly and vulnerable residents deriving from non-symptomatic transmission of the virus. Prime Minister Boris Johnson renewed his apologies for all those who lost their lives during the pandemic. (HANDLE).
