France: for new government ‘at least another week’

(ANSA) – PARIS, APRIL 28 – It will take at least another week for the announcement of the new French government, as reported today by the spokesman of the current team led by Jean Castex.

“The five-year mandate officially ends on May 14”, the spokesman of the current government, Gabriel Attal, reminded journalists meeting today at the exit of the Council of Ministers. So, as he added, today’s Council will not be the last of the current government, which is expected to meet again in a week before the formation of the new government for Emmanuel Macron’s second term.

The current Castex-led government “is working to continue making the necessary decisions,” added Attal, citing in particular the aid to the purchasing power of citizens in the face of inflation, the situation in Ukraine and the Extraordinary Council of EU energy ministers, scheduled for Monday.
