USA: Mitt Romney rules out presidential candidacy in 2024

(ANSA) – NEW YORK, APRIL 28 – Mitt Romney no longer aspires to be president. The Republican senator from Utah, a two-time White House candidate, said he does not intend to try a third time. “It won’t happen – he told the Huffington Post about a hypothetical candidacy in 2024 -. I’ve been there, I’ve tried twice. I’m happy to be a senator.”

Romney is the only GOP senator to have voted against Donald Trump in both trials for impeachment of the former US president, both for withholding aid to Ukraine to support his presidential campaign, and for instigating attacks on Congress on the 6th. January 2021. The senator also said that Trump’s influence on the Republicans is unsurpassed and that he will again be the chosen one by the Grand Old Party in the event of a new candidacy in 2024.
