“We are striving to increase relations at the political, military and economic levels and start a new era”. This was stated by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as reported by Anadolu, during a visit to Jeddah where he met the Saudi monarch Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for the first time after the crisis between Ankara and Riyadh opened in 2018 following the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul.
“As brother countries, we share historical, cultural and human ties”, said the Turkish president who traveled to Saudi Arabia with a delegation formed, among others, by the ministers of internal affairs Suleyman Soylu, Defense Hulusi Akar, Economy Nureddin Nebati, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy Tourism, Mehmet Mus Commerce and the Head of Secret Service Hakan Fidan.
Erdogan spoke of a common interest in increasing cooperation with Riyadh at the level of health, energy, food security, agricultural technologies, defense industry and finance, also citing a potential collaboration on renewable energy. “We attach importance to stability and security for our brothers in the Gulf region,” said the Turkish president who today plans to stay in the country to participate in Islamic ceremonies in Mecca.
