West Bank: gunfire from cars, Israeli guard killed

An Israeli civil guard was killed near Ariel, one of the largest Jewish settlements in the West Bank. The military spokesman said that a car with an Israeli license plate and 3 passengers on board approached the entrance to the settlement and opened fire with an automatic rifle. The car then fled and the army began extensive searches to locate and block it.
Hamas hailed the attack as “a heroic operation to end the holy month of Ramadan”. “This is part of our people’s response to the attacks on Al-Aqsa,” said the spokesman for the movement that governs Gaza, Hazem Qassem, referring to the clashes between Palestinian protesters and police at the Al-Aqsa mosque complex in Jerusalem, in to which there have been dozens of injured.
