Three-day mission to Europe for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At the center of the political agenda that will see the Indian leader engaged in Germany, Denmark and France, in addition to bilateral relations, trade, energy, even international emergencies including Ukraine. New Delhi, which imports much of its military equipment from Russia, only asked for an immediate end to hostilities, never condemning the invasion.
“My visit to Europe comes at a time when the region faces many challenges and choices,” Modi said in a statement released prior to his departure. The premier intends to “strengthen the spirit of cooperation” with European partners “who are important companions in the search for peace and prosperity in India”, adds the statement. Modi is expected to meet German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin today and then head to Copenhagen to join the prime ministers of Denmark, Iceland, Finland, Sweden and Norway in a two-day summit from May 3. Then he will also make a short stop in France to meet with President Emmanuel Macron.
