(ANSA) – MOSCOW, 02 MAY – The Bolshoi Theater in Moscow has canceled from its poster of the shows scheduled for May the performances of two directors who have left Russia and have publicly expressed their opposition to the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
In a message published on Telegram, the theater announced that the ballet ‘Nureyev’ and the opera ‘Don Pasquale’, directed by Kirill Serebrennikov and Timofei Kulyabin respectively, will be replaced, without giving reasons.
The Bolshoi did not comment on the cancellation.
“I am not surprised”, commented Serebrennikov who, after criticizing the Russian offensive in Ukraine, left his country in March for a matter of ‘conscience’ and moved to Berlin. His ballet was replaced by ‘Spartacus’.
Kuliabin, an innovative young director who works in particular in Novosibirsk, has also left Russia for Europe and has published several critical messages on the conflict on social networks.
