Maddie: German prosecutor, new evidence against Bruckner

(ANSA) – LISBON, MAY 04 – “The investigation against Christian Bruckner is still ongoing and I believe that there is new evidence that can give us the certainty that he is the killer of Madeleine McCann”, is what the German prosecutor said Hans Christian Wolter during an interview with the Portuguese newspaper Sabado. Wolter was referring to the so-called “Maddie case”, from the nickname of the English girl who on May 3, 2007, when she was 3 years old, disappeared from the room where she slept with her brothers in a residence in Praia da Luz, in the south of Portugal. The interview was published on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary of her disappearance.

However, the German prosecutor also admits that there is no forensic evidence and that it will not be taken for granted to be able to bring Bruckner to a judge in this case. The man is imprisoned in a German prison for drug-related crimes and has already received a seven-year sentence for sexual violence against a 72-year-old American woman, also in Portugal. He is also suspected of other sexual violence, pedophilia and the disappearance of other children.

His formal conviction only came last month, announced by the Faro prosecutor in a note published online.

According to what Brückner’s lawyer, Friedrich Fülscher had declared, the formalization of the accusation would have been a “procedural trick”, since a crime of this type could have entered into statute of limitations after fifteen years from the fact. (HANDLE).
