Gas: Gazprom depot empty, Austria threatens confiscation

(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 13 – If Gazprom does not fill the Salzburg storage facility with gas, Austria is ready to confiscate it and make it available to other suppliers. Ukrainska Pravda writes it, quoting the Austrian Chancellor Karl Negammer in an interview with the Kronen Zeitung taken up by European Truth.

“We will make sure that if Russian Gazprom does not fill our largest warehouse, we will take it from them and deliver it to other suppliers!” He said.

Kronen Zeitung clarifies that this is the Haidach depot near Salzburg, the largest in Austria and the second in Central Europe. According to the newspaper, the warehouse is currently empty.

Russian media had previously reported Vienna’s willingness to pay for gas in rubles. However, Chancellor Negammer later denied the circumstance, defining the information disclosed on the subject as a “fake Russian propaganda”. “Obviously, OMV will continue to pay for gas supplies from Russia in euros. Austria strictly adheres to the agreed EU sanctions,” he said.

This means a possible cut in Russian gas supplies, for which Austria is not yet ready. (HANDLE).
