Ukraine: Borrell, another 500 million from the EU for heavy weapons

(ANSA) – OLDENBURG IN HOLSTEIN, MAY 13 – “The EU will make a further contribution of 500 million euros to Ukraine to finance the purchase of weapons”. This was stated by the High Commissioner for EU foreign policy Josep Borrell at the G7. “In this way, the EU will contribute 2 billion euros”, he added, specifying that the money will be used to buy “tanks, ammunition, armored vehicles, heavy artillery, everything needed to fight this war”.

“I am sure that from this G7, the seventh since the start of the war, a strong message will come. Which is always the same: more support for Ukraine, including military support”.

Borrell also said he was “certain that we will reach an agreement on the Russian oil embargo”. Adding: “We must give up dependence on Moscow crude oil, if there is no agreement at the level of the ambassadors, the foreign ministers will have to give a new political impetus next Monday and I will do my part”.
