(ANSA) – ROME, MAY 17 – In the temporarily occupied territory of the Lugansk region, Russian forces have launched the forced recruitment of the local population. The invaders threaten to execute male residents who refuse to fight Ukraine. This was announced by human rights commissioner of the Kiev parliament Liudmyla Denisova, reports Ukrinform.
“The Russian occupiers are looking in the area for men who have moved deep into the occupied territories and to safer places to escape the bombing. They break into apartments, families and suburban areas. The conscripts are being taken away at gunpoint and in case of any resistance, the men are threatened with execution “, underlined the ombudsman.
According to Denisova, the forced mobilization of inhabitants of the occupied territories is prohibited by Article 51 IV of the Geneva Convention relating to the protection of civilians in time of war. (HANDLE).
