(ANSA) – MADRID, MAY 19 – King emeritus of Spain Juan Carlos landed at Vigo airport, in the Galicia region, to begin his first visit to his homeland since he left it in 2020, moving to Abu Dhabi. It was shown by images of Spanish public television.
The former monarch flew on a private jet coming directly from the United Arab Emirates. According to what has been announced by the Royal House, he will spend the weekend in the tourist resort of Sanxenxo. In this country on the Galician coast, Iberian media reported, he will spend the night in the house of his friend Pedro Campos, president of a local nautical club. Over the weekend, a sailing regatta will be held in Sanxenxo, a discipline of which the King Emeritus is passionate.
“He is very happy to be back in Spain,” Campos himself told reporters shortly before Juan Carlos arrived. Infanta Elena, his eldest daughter, showed up to welcome him at the Vigo airport. (HANDLE).
